Has a team ever won a football game in the NFL after coughing up the ball on 3 of their first 4 possessions? I mean damn.
Also, the Jets got held to under 40 rushing yards by an Atlanta Defense that before the game was ranked 28th in the league against the run. It's going to be hard to find too many wins with that kind performance.
A few words about Michael Vick. I've been a Vick doubter in the past. He's clearly an amazing, amazing athlete, and tremendous threat anytime he touches the ball. Defenses need to completely adjust to his game, which is unique in the NFL. But can he lead the Falcons all the way? Last night, he was terrifying in the first half. But when it was all said and done, his completion percentage was under 50% and he tossed three picks and no touchdowns. And looking at the box score, I've got to say that I'm surprised to find out that he only actually ran for 18 yards. In otherwords, while he certainly made some big plays, notable two touchdowns as well as some key scrambles when plays looked broken, he accounted for 134 yards of total offense. By comparison, Vinny Testaverde put up 141 yards. Meanwhile, Warrick Dunn averaged 6.5 yards per carry while rolling up 155 yards on the ground. That, combined with the Jets' giveaways, is what the game hinged on. Now, nothing happens in a vacuum, so perhaps the adjustments that Vick's versatility forces defenses to make gives Dunn some breathing room.
Either way, the Jets need to turn this thing around fast.
In other news, the Chargers are the best team with a losing record, at 3-4, that I can think of. All of their losses have been insanely close. Watching the last few minutes of the Eagles game on Sunday was surreal.
